Surprise was just that, a big surprise! Her dam, Sassy, had
never given us a doe kid and is a Recorded Grade Alpine. Sassy
aborted triplets in January and I never thought that she would breed
back the same year. I turned in a clean up buck---Big and Rich--for
some other does and did not see Sassy in heat or the buck pay any
attention to her. We discussed whether we thought she might kid and
no one on the farm thought she would, especially in July. I went
out one beautiful summer day to find one huge chocolate and white
doe kid and a very smug looking old doe looking at me. From this
unlikely start came one of the best Jr. does that has been born here
(at least I admit it..) Surprise was a nice kid, but born so late,
went with us to some fairs only to get a bottle and was never shown.
She hit the circuit this year with a vengeance and was never beaten
including Nationals where she was 1st place Jr.
Yearling! Her record for the year was 7 x’s 1st, 6 x’s
Jr. GCH and BJDIS at the KY State Fair Exhibitors Show. Surprise is
a huge, long, tall and powerful doe she has blended the best traits
of her dam Sassy and granddam Barbie together. If she comes up with
either one of their udders, we will be happy!!
